Baripada, a city located in the district of Mayurbhanj in the East Indian state of Orissa, is a nice destination to stay and tours. One of the major wildlife centuries in India, Similipal is situated in this region. This national park houses lush valleys, woodlands and numerous ancient temples.

The region is known for its Arts and Culture. One of the major attractions of Baripada is its Rathyatra (Chariot Festival) which is the second most popular Rath Yatra in the state after Puri. Baripada Ratha Yatra follows a unique tradition where women pull the Ratha of Maa Subhadra. The chief temple in the region is the Maa Ambika Temple with the residing deity Maa Ambika brought here from Devkund.

Baripada is the birthplace of several famous actors of Ollywood (Oriya Film Industry). Local talents get a platform during the Chaitra Parva celebrated in mid-April. The performing groups in this festival include Uttarsahi and Dakshinsahi. Baripada’s popular song is Jhumar. Other main attraction for which Baripada is known for is the Mayurbhanj Chhau Dance that is an ancient martial dance form. Rangamatia in the region is the home to the 5th Battalion of OSAP (Orissa State Armed Police).

Baripada is the first city in Orissa to see a train communication. Rajabasa (16 km from city) and Rasgovindpur (60 km from the city) are the first ever airports in the state constructed during World War II. The starting point of NH5 is 30 km to the city, connecting it to all the major cities in the country.
