Chilka Lake - Asia's largest natural brackish water lagoon / coastal lagoon in India

Chilika Lake (Chilka Lake) is a brackish water lagoon at the mouth of the River Daya in the East Indian state of Orissa. Spreading over the districts of Puri, Khurda and Ganjam, the lake has the shores ready for providing you lovely picnic time. Connected to the Bay of Bengal with a 32 km long narrow outer channel near the village Motto, the lagoon has recently got a new mouth made by the CDA. Flowing into the Bay of Bengal, the lagoon expands over an area of more than 1,100 sq km. Chilika is India’s largest coastal lagoon and the world’s second largest lagoon. It is a home to a big range of species of flora and fauna. The largest wintering ground on the sub-continent of India is found here by the migratory birds. The lake became an ecosystem because of the wide fishery resources it houses. More than 150,000 fisher-folk gets abode through 132 villages on the shore and islands.
